My name is Matthew Gouthro, I’m a husband, father and swim dad. My family enjoys living in Nashua, particularly our neighborhood and neighbors. We frequent local parks, culinary hot spots, downtown parades, and baseball games at Holman Stadium. We're also active at St. Christopher Parish, where I serve as a Lector. I work in Travel and Tourism, helping small businesses grow in New England by managing large annual marketing budgets to boost client sales. I am a huge sports fan, a member of the Nashua Republican City Committee and enjoy cheering on my daughter as she competes on the YMCA Nashua Storm swim team.

I am running for Ward 2 Alderman in Nashua, NH because I believe after many years of the same, our community deserves new leadership rooted in accountability, transparency, and a deep commitment to the residents they serve. Having witnessed firsthand the consequences of mismanaged funds, a lack of oversight on critical projects, and the shifting of financial burdens onto taxpayers, I feel called to advocate for responsible stewardship of our city’s resources. My experiences as a dedicated resident, community volunteer, and active participant in local organizations have shown me both the strengths of Nashua and the areas where we must do better. I am determined to foster open communication, ensure prudent fiscal management, and champion initiatives that enhance public safety and quality of life for every neighbor in our ward. Together, we can restore trust in local government and build a stronger, more resilient Nashua for all.

PUBLIC SAFETY

Ensuring the safety of our community is my top priority. Over the years, I have worked tirelessly to strengthen our public safety measures by advocating for increased funding and the adoption of advanced technologies to equip our first responders better. As a resident, I have been a big supporter of our Public Safety Community here in Nashua. I’m a strong advocate of community programs focused on crime prevention and community policing. These initiatives aim to build trust between law enforcement and residents, ensuring that every citizen feels heard and protected. Throughout my time in Nashua, I have attended many of our Police Commission meetings and have been a big supporter of our city’s National Night Out Against Crime Event.

I have personally advocated for enhanced safety in our Public Schools. Knowing the value of having School Resource Officers onsite at our schools, I have strongly lobbied the Board of Education, Board of Aldermen and our Police Department to augment this program. As a result, the Police Chief was able to reallocate resources to add an additional SRO to cover our Middle Schools and use a Government Grant to fund a program that would allow more visibility for officer engagement at our Elementary Schools.

I continue to be a strong proponent of our Fire Department and an outspoken champion of the Nashua Fire Department’s mission of becoming the first Class 1 ISO Rated Fire Organization in the State of New Hampshire. Receiving an ISO 1 rating is a significant achievement in the Fire Community, as less than 1% of fire departments nationwide achieve this honor. Consequently, commercial properties and homeowners in areas with better ISO ratings are likely to enjoy lower insurance premiums. Therefore, this distinction would benefit the entire City of Nashua. If elected I will continue to sponsor legislation to support our Fire Department in their continued efforts to being the best in class in the State of New Hampshire.

Prudent fiscal responsibility is essential to sustaining the vitality and progress of our city. I am committed to ensuring that every taxpayer dollar is managed with transparency, accountability, and a focus on long-term stability. By supporting balanced budgets, seeking efficiencies within city departments, and encouraging innovative cost-saving measures, we can maintain essential services while avoiding unnecessary tax increases. My approach emphasizes responsible investments in infrastructure, public services, and economic development, all while maintaining a careful eye on expenditures. If entrusted with leadership, I will work collaboratively with city officials and residents alike to protect Nashua’s financial health and ensure that our community continues to thrive for generations to come.

In the past our Ward 2 Alderman never returned phone calls or held public meetings in our Ward to inform the public of what’s happening. That will all change if I become your Ward 2 Alderman, I’m your neighbor and I don’t want you to be blindsided by anything that happens at City Hall. Because this is our city and together, we can make a difference.
